The expansion of A Hope and a Future is an intergenerational apartment building that supports older adults and lower income families. The building features large communal spaces that are available for all residents in order to foster a welcoming community.

These spaces include a communal kitchen, lounge space, and library that feel comfortable, homey and support bonding between the residents. In order to create a homey feel, some of the large spaces feature separate zones so people can choose where they want to be.

This also creates areas of varying levels of interaction, which is important in building a safe community. The building is set up to have the most public spaces towards the front and become more private further inside.
